When Is the Best Time of Day for a Helicopter Tour?

April 17, 2020 Leave your thoughts

There is really only one answer to this question: the best time of day for a helicopter tour is anytime you want! However, if this is your first tour and even your first trip to Montana, it may not be as easy as all that. If you find it difficult to make a choice on when to schedule your helicopter tour in Montana, here are four considerations to help you decide:

  • Morning vs. night person: If waking up early in the morning to see the sunrise sounds like torture, that is not your time for a tour. Try a sunset ride instead! We understand that not everyone wants to be awake at the crack of dawn when they are on vacation. Our tours can accommodate both morning larks and night owls. There is no set time on when the “best” tours occur.
  • Sightseeing desires: Montana is not a place full of city lights, so a tour into the void of night will likely not satisfy any sightseeing desires. If you wish to see a particular land form or monument, anytime during the day will work for you as long as there is light to see by. For wildlife sightings, we can time your tour for when animals are most active, usually early in the morning or at dusk. However, with wildlife, there are also times of the year when we do not wish to disturb them with the noise. Timing barely matters with some sightseeing plans, but it can be everything with others. Discuss these preferences with us when you call to book and we will see what can work for you.
  • Photography expectations: Even amateur photographers know the time of day affects photo quality. You want the sun behind you or your photos will be beautiful landscapes or animals with a big distracting glare spot. The afternoon hours between 1 and 3 p.m. often make for the best photos. If you let us know that your main priority is taking pictures, we will work hard to get your tour in this time slot.
  • Travel schedules: You may want a quick overview tour of the Rockies before you explore sites. Or, you may need to be in Jackson Hole for an event and want to be sure you are on time. You may even want a tour right before you leave to go home. There are people who are planners even when they are on vacation. If you have a time commitment or preference to keep, book well ahead of time and let us know your expectations. Our tours can be a scenic way to get from Point A to Point B, as well as strictly for sightseeing.
